Firstly, he talked about definition of garden from the ancient Chinese word, and definition of garden. In chinese word, square means wall in the garden, and in this square top of ancient Chinese character means land, second ancient Chinese character means water in garden, and last ancient Chinese character means trees and leaves. Very interesting isn't it?
English word "garden" it comes from ancient Greece, "Gen" and "Eden". Gen means wall and Eden means trees and plants.
Next, he talked about 4 types of garden in China. First type is Empire garden, it is for the empire, and the second one is certain families' garden, and third type is religious activities, such as in temple, the last one is place of interest garden, such as Suzhou garden
Then, he talked about classical Suzhou garden, he said that Suzhou garden is in the Suzhou down town, so in the ancient China, they called city forest.The reason why Suzhou garden called city forest is that inside of Suzhou garden is very quiet, you can enjoy the beauty of forest, outside of garden is crowded, noisy. Also he said that there are poetry, drawing atmosphere.
Unfortunately, he didn't finish the speech, because there was not enough time for him to finish the speech about history of Suzhou garden, but pictures of Suzhou garden were very beautiful, actually I have been to Suzhou garden, when I saw these pictures I thought, why I haven't seen these scenes? Be honest, this speech was boring, because I don't know what kind of garden design is beautiful, which garden has unique style, also i'm not expert on garden designing. In my mind, gardens are all beautiful, very quiet, there are many beautiful flowers but after this speech I learned about what is garden design, and more about Suzhou garden. I want to go to Suzhou garden again!
